Debby is an experienced fibre artists. Of Texan origin, she has lived in the South Island of New Zealand for the past 29 years where she has been involved with many different quilt groups.
Growing up, Debby had tampered with a huge variety of art forms, including full sized set design, costume design, stain glass work, (clay) sculpturing, painting both in acrylics and oils, mural paintings, all forms of fabric manipulation, beading, cross stitching, jewelry making, and most of all quilting. The variety of styles in quilting caught and kept her interest, and she has specialized in this art form. Debby has won several top NZ awards with her original quilt designs. After moving to Queenstown she began experimenting with leather quilting, winning the supreme art award at the Queenstown Art Awards for her Leather with metal embellished (canvas mounted) quilt. Debby has been a quilt tutor since 2007, and has taught at NZ's largest quilt gatherings many times. After shifting to Queenstown in 2019, she was invited to join the Arts Centre as a resident artist. Although a quilter at heart she is enjoying diversifying her time at the studio both quilting and playing with paints again after many years break. |
